Campus & Community Information
History of the Clearfield Campus
In 1989, Lock Haven University expanded its educational programs and mission by founding
its branch campus in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. A group of community leaders had wanted to
bring post-secondary education to the area. In the years since then, many people have received
an outstanding education at the Clearfield campus.
While the facility is located in Clearfield, students who attend school there are very much a part
of Lock Haven University. Faculty, activities, even the computer network are the same as on
the main campus. The only difference is in the location and the classes offered.
Clearfield is just over an hour drive west of Lock Haven, surrounded by the mountains and
along the Susquehanna River. The current facility was opened for classes starting with the
Fall semester of 2001. Founders Hall includes classrooms, new equipment and state-of-the-art
computer lab, and replaced the original facilities used for instruction. (Get directions)
The same community leaders who spearheaded the initial founding of the Clearfield campus
evolved into Clearfield Educational Foundation, which provides financial aid to students in the
form of scholarships and grants. In cooperation with Lock Haven University, the foundation
has worked to make the Clearfield campus a place where you can receive a quality,
affordable education.
