English Department Awards & Scholarships

Clara M. Clendenen Memorial Scholarship
For rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors from Western Clinton County, especially Noyes Township, with first preference to English majors from western Clinton County, second preference to English majors from Clinton County, and third preference to any major from western Clinton County, with demonstrated financial need. Total amount currently available is up to $5,000. For an application, contact the chair of the Department of English (Raub 303).

Isabel Winner Miller Award in Creative Writing
An annual award endowed by Isabel Winner Miller of Lock Haven, author of Old Town. The award is presented to a rising junior or senior Lock Haven University student who has demonstrated outstanding ability in creative writing. The amount of the award varies with annual interest on the endowment principal and usually yields up to $125. For an application, contact the chair of the Department of English (Raub 303).

The Dorothy and Franklin Vaughn English Scholarship
The Dorothy and Franklin Vaughn English Scholarship is endowed by the Vaughns, emeriti faculty members, who devoted most of their professional lives to the English Department at Lock Haven University. The award is given to a rising senior Liberal Arts, English B.A. or Secondary Education--English major. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic success, extra-curricular activities related to English, special accomplishments, and devotion to the discipline.
