Notification of Absence Non-Faculty
In the event that illness or any other situation requires an LHUP
non-faculty employee’s unanticipated absence from work, the employee must notify
their immediate supervisor no later than one (1) hour after the employee’s
scheduled start time, except those employees in Law Enforcement. Employees in
Law Enforcement must notify their supervisor at least two (2) hours prior to their scheduled
start time. Employees must make direct contact with their supervisor (i.e.,
voice mail or email messages are not considered “direct contact”).
If the immediate supervisor is not present or available, an
employee must make direct contact the next level of supervision (dean/director)
within your department or area.
If the next level of supervision is not
present or available, notification to any available supervisor at the worksite
will suffice. Employees are solely responsible for reporting their absence and
keeping the supervisor informed of their leave status. Only in extenuating
circumstances (i.e., hospitalization) may another individual report an LHUP
employee’s absence from work.
Employees are required to report their absence each day they are absent unless otherwise agreed to by their supervisor. For extended absences, the employees and supervisor may establish a notification schedule.
If an employee fails to make notification in accordance with this policy, he/she:
a. may be required to provide justification and/or documentation for not making proper notification;
b. may be placed on leave without pay for the time period up until proper notification is made and the leave of absence is approved;
c. may be subject to appropriate administrative action including disciplinary action.
