| Responsibilities: |
This is skilled work in the construction,
maintenance, and repair of wooden articles,
equipment, and structures. |
| Specific Duties: |
Specific duties include the following: |
|
Ø |
Performs general carpentry work in the
alteration, repair, and maintenance of
buildings, floors, roofs, stairways,
partitions, doors, screens, window guards,
scaffolding, forms, wood fixtures, and
furniture; |
|
Ø |
Repairs tables, chairs, benches and
cupboards; builds concrete forms; |
|
Ø |
Makes
estimates of time and material required for
assigned tasks and keeps basics records; |
|
Ø |
Performs skilled bench work in a carpenter
shop operating power saws, joiners, wood
lathes, planers, routers, and boring,
sanding, and mortising machines; |
|
Ø |
Paint buildings, rooms,
walls or other surfaces as assigned; |
|
Ø |
Function as a lead worker over semi-skilled
and unskilled helpers by assigning work, providing assistance,
conduct on-the-job training, and reviewing
the work for adherence to standards; |
|
Ø |
Interacts positively and cooperatively with
co-workers, responds politely to customers,
works as a team member, responds in a
positive manner to supervision and functions
under intense pressure; |
|
Ø |
Ensures that all equipment is operating
safely and that work area and equipment are
kept clean and orderly. Adheres to all
University policies and rules on safety,
fire protection, good housekeeping, work
practices and personal conduct. |

Ø |
Performs related work as required. |
| Qualifications: |
|
|
Ø |
Four years of experience in the carpentry
trade or completion of an appropriate
apprenticeship; or |
|
Ø |
Any equivalent combination of experience and
training that affords the applicant with the
required knowledge, skills and abilities. |
| Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities: |
Applicant
must possess these skills, knowledge, and
ability or be able to explain and
demonstrate that they can perform the
essential functions of the job, with or
without reasonable accommodation, using some
other combination of skills and abilities. |

Ø |
A basic
knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and
practices of the carpentry trade and the
qualities and uses of various types of wood; |
|
Ø |
Knowledge of
the occupational hazards and safety
precautions of the carpentry trade; |
|
Ø |
Ability to
inspect lumber for grade and quality; |
|
Ø |
Ability to work from sketches and plans, and
to understand and follow oral and written
instructions; |
|
Ø |
Ability to
lift a minimum of 50 pounds and move heavy
objects; |
|
Ø |
Ability to
drive a vehicle and possess a valid
Pennsylvania Driver's License and operate an
automobile as required. |
