An internship is a planned work experience in
which the student has learning goals. It is
designed to offer a student the opportunity to
work in pre-professional position related to
his/her major or career goals. The intern’s work
is monitored by a faculty member at Lock Haven
University and a supervisor at the internship
site.
Internships offer employers the opportunity to
have a student help them in a pre-professional
capacity, often working on a project or
providing services. At the same time, employers
assist students in developing their professional
skills.
An internship is a valuable part of a student’s
educational experience, and it serves many
functions. During the internship, students
actively reflect on what they observe and learn.
Internships provide hands-on experience in the
field of study. Students often return to the
classroom with a new perspective. Often
internships provide valuable contacts after
graduation. Some students find that internships
focus their careers.
Located in Lock Haven, PA, the university is
about 30 miles from Williamsport and State
College. Lock Haven University (LHU) partners
with a variety of businesses, non-profits and
governmental agencies to provide internships.
