Learning for ABE/GED
The goal of this lesson is to have the students prepare a household budget covering a one month time period. The student will also become familiar with using a computer spreadsheet.
COMPUTER LITERACY SKILLS:
Keyboarding, Using a spreadsheet
ACTIVITIES:
1. Introduce the topic to be covered, and the means by which the students will be expected to complete the assignment. This will be done in lecture format.
2. Provide hand outs to students that explain:
3. Your computer should be facing the students.
4. Examples of household items and their costs should be entered into your computer's spreadsheet.
5. Have the students work in teams of two.
6. Explain to the class how you want the assignment completed, and when it will be due.
7. Have the students print out their completed assignment.
8. Review the completed assignments in class. Expand on the completed assignment in class to enlarge the scope of learning.
EVALUATION:
Evaluation will be based on the achievement of the learning objectives.

1. Using a computer, students will exhibit competency using a spreadsheet. Competency will be measured by observing entries on the spreadsheet.
2. Using a spreadsheet program, students working in teams of two, will create a one month household budget.
