GRADE LEVEL: ABE 5-8

OBJECTIVES: Student will be able to:

MATERIALS:

PROCEDURE: Following a lesson on proper nouns, student will practice identifying proper nouns in a word document using word processing skills.

  1. Have student retrieve "Proper Nouns Worksheet" file from disk.
  2. Using the first five sentences as samples, help students identify the proper nouns. Demonstrate and then have students practice using the mouse, underline key, backspace key, arrow keys and shift key.
  3. After sufficient practice, have students complete remainder of worksheet.
  4. In each sentence, have student identify proper nouns.
  5. Using mouse, have student highlight each proper noun, then use the underline key to underline.
  6. Using arrow keys, have student move between words in the document.
  7. After identifying proper nouns by underlining, have student use backspace key to delete lower case letters.
  8. Using shift key, have student type in capital letters.
  9. When the student has finished correcting the document, have student print finished copy.

 

EVALUATION:

  1. Student has correctly identified proper nouns.
  2. Student has underlined and capitalized proper nouns.
  3. Student makes a printed copy of corrected worksheet.

Student will show ability to do limited word processing and use mouse by successfully completing worksheet.

Timeline for implementation

During a 3-hour class period, student will receive oral instruction on proper nouns then check knowledge by completing computer worksheet. Time may vary depending on student’s grade level and word processing skills.
