USING ONLINE CHATS

AS A NETWORK OF PRACTITIONERS

 

LEARNING LEVEL             Adult educators with varying degrees of computer literacy

BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

             

Booting up a computer

                Using a mouse

                Typing knowledge

                Connecting to the Internet

                Typing an address in the URL

                Writing and sending e-mail

TIME REQUIRED   

One 45-minute class to boot up, connect to the Internet, and chat. If possible, it would be helpful if at least two online computers could be used to demonstrate this lesson to provide the opportunity to chat in the event that no one else is presently chatting.

MATERIALS NEEDED

                 

Computers with Internet access

                Printer

                Paper/pencil

                Calendar

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

            Connect to the Internet

                Apply Internet knowledge by typing the correct site address in the URL

                Access the http://www.mylanders.com/chat site

                Chat in real time with other educators about appropriate and useful software for the ABE/GED student

                Discuss possible education topics for future chats

                Organize a day and time to participate in another online chat with other adult

                education practitioners noting the appropriate room where the chat will be held

                               

PROCEDURES

             

Provide the mylanders.com address to be typed in the URL.

Appropriately type the information requested including name, password, and e-mail address.

Chat in real time about software using on-screen directions to read and correspond.

               

EVALUATION

A date and time for another online chat will be scheduled using themylanders.com site. This will be accomplished through notification by e-mail.
