Locate A State

Grade level: ABE (3-4)

Goal: Using the Internet to locate specific Web pages, students will record specific scientific and geographical information about our states.

Objectives: Students will learn about the varied geography in our country, learn to use the Web to locate information, and locate places on a map of the United States. Students will have a better knowledge of our states, where they are located, and what they may see while there.

Materials: Computer with Internet access

Map of the United States

The student data sheets

Pencils

Procedures: Discuss the location of our states

Locate several states on a U.S. map

Have students access the Web site for the state they choose

Each student should pick a different state

Students will fill in the data sheets

Students will share their information with the class.

Evaluation: After the lesson, the student’s data sheets will be properly filled in. They will be able to explain about, and locate the state on a U.S. map.
