A Weekend Getaway

 

 

Grade level: ABE 5-8

 

 

Goal: Students will develop an understanding of the Internet while enhancing basic skills.

 

 

Objective: Students will access information on the Internet using "Yahoo" to locate a specific travel location. This exercise will improve critical thinking skills, writing skills, and time management skills.

 

 

Materials: Computer with Internet access

                    Copy of Lesson

                    Pen / Pencil

                    Lined paper

 

 

Procedures: Using a specific directory, students will locate various lodging, dining, and tour attractions in Gettysburg. By using critical thinking skills and time management skills, they will choose sites that interest them while observing the time limit of the weekend. By providing explanations, they will practice writing skills.

 

 

Evaluation:

4 Students should have a hotel / motel listed and reasons for selecting it.

4 The list of historical sites and attractions should each have a brief explanation.

4 The restaurants should have a reason why they were chosen.

4 The schedule should reflect the time needed for meals, transportation, tours, etc.

                               

You have been given a Weekend in Gettysburg.

Money is no object.

You will arrive Friday at 4:00p.m. and leave Sunday at 4:00p.m.

All transportation is provided. A limousine is at your disposal!
