MANG101 __ INTRODUCTION TO MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS

This course provides an introduction to management uses of information and information technologies within and between business organizations.  It provides students with the tools and background to understand and interpret information issues from a managerial perspective.  Prerequisite:  CISC150 or permission of the instructor.

   
MANG159 __ SPECIAL TOPICS:  FIRST YEAR STUDENT SEMINAR

The first year seminar is designed to introduce the student to the culture and mission of the university within the context of an academic discipline of choice.  The course will explore the purpose of one's college education and provide the student an opportunity to become engaged with the academic field of interest.  The student will be introduced to basic college learning and study skills in the context of the content area.  Through ample class discussion of common readings, the student will engage in active learning.  Common co-curricular activities and the incorporation of a peer mentor component will facilitate the first year student's connection with fellow students and faculty in the university community.  Restricted to first semester, first year students.

   

MANG220     INTRODUCTION TO PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

The course introduces students to personal financial planning concepts and techniques.  Financial planning for decision-making and comprehensive lifetime money management are emphasized. Prerequisite:  ACCT110 or permission of the instructor.

 

 

MANG305 - OPERATIONS/ PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

The operations/production function of a business organization is introduced.  Topic such as basic manufacturing processes, capacity planning and scheduling, facility location, inventory management, job design, productivity and quality control are investigated.  Prerequisite:  ECON101 and MATH180 or 141, or permission of the instructor. 

 

 

MANG315     MANAGEMENT:  CONCEPTS AND STRATEGIES

A study of concepts of management as it applies to formal organizations.  Students are introduced to the importance of effective management within organizations.  The essential management skills in planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling are examined.  Prerequisite:  ECON101 and ACCT110 or permission of the instructor.

 

 

MANG317     ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Examines the organization, implementation and management of small businesses, with emphasis on the planning and development phases of entrepreneurial activities.  Prerequisite:  MANG315 or permission of the instructor.

 

 

MANG320     HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Management of human resources is a primary function of all managers.  Emphasis is placed on personnel processes necessary to comply with laws and regulations, and improving labor utilization and productivity. Prerequisite:  MANG315 or permission of the instructor.

 

 

MANG325     FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Students are introduced to the concepts of financial management with emphasis on the corporate sector.  The course is designed to demonstrate financial analysis techniques for both short and long-term planning and control within the firm.  Prerequisite:  ECON101 and ACCT110.

 

 

MANG326     FUNDAMENTALS OF INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT

Provides students with basic knowledge about different investment securities and sources of information to enable them to make informed investment decisions.  Concepts and methodologies to be used in selecting individual securities and in evaluating an investment portfolio are covered.  Prerequisite:  MATH107 and either MANG220 or MANG325.

   
MANG365     ORGANIZATION THEORY AND PRACTICE (changed from POLI365, 11/2008)

An advanced course of particular interest to majors in Business Administration, Political Science, and Sociology.  Theories of the nature and functions of organizations will be looked at from the perspectives of managers, workers, consumers, and citizens.  The psychological, sociological, economic, political, and cultural impact of organizations will be studied.  Prerequisite:  MANG315 or POLI260 or permission of instructor

   
MANG400     BUSINESS, SOCIETY AND GOVERNMENT

Introduction to applied business ethics from the perspective of the business manager.  Course content emphasizes the interrelationships between business, societal, and government issues that involve the ethical responsibilities of managers, corporate social responsibility and corporate governance.  Students will gain an increased understanding of how business relates to and operates within the social and legal environments, as well as awareness of contemporary social issues in management, cultural diversity in the workplace, international and globalization issues, and ecological and environmental issues.  Students will develop and utilize skills in critical thinking, moral reasoning and individual decision making.  Prerequisite:  MANG315, MRKT200, ECON101, and either PHIL102 or PHIL425; or permission of instructor.

 

 

MANG405     SENIOR CAPSTONE MANAGEMENT SEMINAR

This seminar integrates issues in accounting with management practice.   That is, how issues in accounting practice can affect management decision making.  As a capstone seminar, students are required to apply simultaneously knowledge and skills gained from previous course work in the functional areas of business.  Analytical skills, previous experiences, conceptual skills, and reports of and about the issues and topics are used to develop estimates of results of changes in accounting and strategies to cope with these.   Restrictions upon Student Registration:  This is a required seminar for Business Administration adn Accounting majors.  It is to be taken during one of the last two semesters prior to graduation.

 

 

MANG425     INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

The course adds an international emphasis to the student's knowledge of the principles of economics and various management concepts. Using a global business perspective, the course integrates functional management courses such as accounting, finance, marketing and personnel. Prerequisites:  ECON101, ACCT115 and MANG315.

 

 

MANG430     INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

To better understand contemporary events and trends in international business, students are introduced to advanced concepts including financing international business operations and investments, decision making in the multinational firm, the international monetary system, foreign exchange transactions, and international financial institutions.  Prerequisites:  MANG325 Financial Management.

 

 

MANG459     SPECIAL TOPICS:  BUSINESS, SOCIETY AND GOVERNMENT (spring 2007)

Introduces the student to the issues involving the ethical responsibilities of managers, corporate responsibility and interrelationships between business, society and government.  In addition to gaining a better understanding of how business relates to and operates within the social and legal milieu, of special concern will be the application of moral reasoning skills and increasing awareness of cultural diversity in the workplace, international and globalization issues, and ecological and environmental issues.  The course is restricted to Accounting, Business Administration and Computer Science/Information Technology majors who have completed 60 credits.  Students must have completed MANG315, MRKT200, ECON101, and MANG325, or permission of instructor.

   

MANG475     CAPSTONE SEMINAR IN STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

A study of major concepts and topics that encompass the field of strategic management.  As a capstone seminar, it is an integrating experience in which students are required to apply knowledge and skills gained from previous coursework in the functional areas of business.   Restrictions upon student enrollment:  Restricted to Accounting and Business Administration majors.  Students must have completed 75 credits to register and 90 credits when the course begins.  Exceptions are made by permission of the instructor.
