cultures through a variety of listening experiences.
Selected masterpieces, most dating from the 16th
century through the present, are the subject of
exploration. The
students' aural perceptions will be enhanced by guided
instruction in (1) the basic materials and traditional
techniques of music, (2) the genres and forms which have
come into contemporary use, (3) the nature and variety of
music styles that can be examined, and (4) the
extraordinary people who created our musical art.
As music is an aural art, listening in and out of
the class will challenge and sharpen listening skills.

the artistic ideals of the periods and geographic regions,
