Minor - Alternative Education

This minor is to prepare undergraduate students with the knowledge and skill base required to work with at-risk youth in non-traditional school settings.  The program will also prepare these undergraduate students to meet the ever-increasing demands for working with at-risk youth in more traditional public and private educational settings.

Alternative Education

All students must complete the following:

 

ALTE300 Helping Skills in Alternative Education 3 sh
ALTE480 Practicum in Alternative Education 3 sh

B.

Education - Students must complete the following

SPEC101 Multicultural Education 3 sh

C.

Sociology/Social Work - Students must take the following

SOCI203 Social Problems 3 sh

 

SOCI301 Juvenile Delinquency 3 sh

D.

Psychology - Major requirements for Elementary and Special Education majors include PSYC102 and PSYC201.  In addition, students must complete the following courses: 6 sh

 

PSYC103 Adolescent Development 3 sh

 

PSCY307 Abnormal Psychology

3 sh

Note:  All students must meet the prerequisites for courses as stated in the University catalog.  SOCI101 and PSYC100 are examples of these prerequisites.

 

 

 All students must participate in a non-traditional student teaching placement (designed to complement courses in the Elementary or Special Education majors) or an equivalent experience.
