General Education requirements for students admitted before Fall 1999

All Lock Haven University students, with the exception of nursing, cooperative engineering, biology/ chemistry, and special education, are required to complete courses designated as "General Education". Some curricula require specific courses to be taken in fulfillment of the General Education requirement.

The following requirements are for students who were admitted prior to Summer 1999

A. Humanities (total of 18 semester hours)   
  Art/Music/Theatre  6 sh
  Literature  3 sh
  Philosophy  3 sh
  Composition  3 sh
  Speech  3 sh
B. Social and Behavioral Sciences (total of 12 semester hours)   
  World History  3 sh
  Government or Economics  3 sh
  Psychology  3 sh
  Sociology or Anthropology  3 sh
C. Natural Sciences and Mathematics (total of 9 semester hours)   
  Laboratory Science
(Selected courses in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences
Physics, and Geography)
  
6 sh
  Mathematics  3 sh
D. Health, Physical Education, and Recreation  3 sh
E. Electives  10 sh
     

General Education Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts Degree

General Education for all students (listed above), plus the following
Liberal Arts Seminars: One each in the Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences  9 sh
Foreign Language (completion of Level IV)*  12 sh

*A student with no foreign language proficiency must take 12 sh. 
Students may earn foreign language credits by passing departmental examinations.
