Recreation Management, B.S.

The four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management prepares students for professional employment in a variety of private and public recreation settings or graduate studies in the recreation field.  Students enrolled in this program will complete one of the following tracks:

The Fitness Management Track prepares students for careers in corporate fitness, wellness centers, hospitals, YMCAs and private health clubs.  Graduates are qualified to do fitness assessments; design and prescribe exercise programs; teach aerobics; serve as personal trainers; and to apply for certification from any of several national organizations.

The Outdoor Management Track is designed to prepare students for careers in camp administration, state and federal parks, environmental interpretation, outdoor education, adventure programming, scouting and wildlife conservation.  Graduates acquire a mix of natural science, programming theory and resource management skills.  Students will be able to understand, use and preserve our nation's natural resources.

The Community/Commercial Track equips students for careers in community recreation, YMCA and YWCAs, military recreation, sport administration, resorts, cruise lines and major event management.  Students are taught to plan and promote recreation programs with an emphasis on leadership, marketing and business skills.

The Therapeutic Recreation Track is designed for students to work with disabled population groups in a variety of settings such as rehabilitation, psychiatric, and long-term care.  Students will be prepared to take the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification exam.
