Surgical Technology, AS                      

Program placed into moratorium 01/2008 - no new students accepted

This program is currently offered at our Clearfield Campus.  Graduates from the program qualify to take the LCC-ST® National Certification Exam in Surgical Technology to become a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).

Surgical Technologists manage all aspects of the sterile field during a surgical intervention.  Some of these tasks include:

~ Organization of the surgical suite
~ Opening sterile supplies
~ Scrubbing, gowning and gloving
~ Preparation of the instruments, supplies and equipment for a variety of surgeons and surgical procedures
~ Patient skin preparation and draping
~ Preparation and passing of sutures and wound approximation materials
~ Holding retractor, suctioning and cutting sutures
~ Application of surgical dressings
~ Accounting for items in and near the surgical wound
~ Maintenance of aseptic technique
