Academic Continuity
The Office of Academic Technology recognizes the importance of maintaining the continuity of the teaching and learning process during an emergency. The information below provides guidance and suggestions on the procedures to be followed before and during an emergency. Please contact the Office of Academic Technology at ext. 2404 for more information.
- Consider having a portion of class material put online:
- Provide eCompanion course shells for all courses not already utilizing this technology. In the event of an emergency, course shells will be provided on an as-requested basis by contacting Jan Bottorf ext. 3060 or jbottorf@lhup.edu. Turnaround time can be 24 hours or less.
- Utilize Mediasite archived content to deliver class material. Faculty interested in taking advantage of this option, should send an email to Vicki Paulina ext. 3059 or vpaulina@lhup.edu indicating the course name, number, and semester.
- Consider putting lectures and/or notes in a format that can be downloaded.
- For asynchronous courses conduct class discussions using the discussion forums:
- Post mini-lectures using Camtasia, Quicktime, or Wimba to stream and/or record class lectures.
- Record mini-lectures using a microphone that can be converted to podcasting for easy delivery and retrieval.
- Consider using teleconference services; MeetMeConference is available as a service where a conference call is scheduled and holds up to 16 users in a teleconference. Please contact Bo Miller ext. 2287 or bo@lhup.edu if you are interested in this option.
- Consider having a discussion forum (using eCompanion) online for students to interact with each other.
- Consider having online tests.
- Consider using Skype or IM to hold virtual office hours; you can use free web-based collaboration tools like DimDim WebMeeting to set up sessions with the use of a webcam on your computer.
