At Lock Haven University faculty has embraced technology and students at various levels, with significant investments in infrastructure such as classroom technology (link to classroom inventory), wireless access, interactive television (ITV), Mediasite, Smart Boards and online learning offerings. 98% of LHU’s classrooms are outfitted with one or more of these technologies.
The Office of Academic Technology provides vision, leadership, and advocacy for academic technology initiatives, to improve the services provided to faculty, students and staff and to support teaching and learning. The functions of the Office of Academic Technology include distance education, coordinate the STEP Initiative, learning technologies, faculty development, visioning and resource allocation as well as marketing and branding to support of teaching, learning, research, and scholarly activities.

eCampus
The eCampus comprises the virtual academic enterprise of Lock Haven University. It delivers usable, reliable, 24 X 7 access to high quality distance learning courses and programs, online learning, hybrid-online, tele-learning and continued education courses. The mission is to foster and facilitate the expansion and delivery of courses and programs for distance learning and technologically enriched instruction.
STEP Initiative
Envisioned by President Miller, the STEP initiative supports student learning and success via a laptop program. The STEP initiative impact is seen in the areas of: learning outcomes, student retention, and graduation readiness.
Learning Technologies
Promote, adopt, implement, train and evaluate current and emerging technologies that enable faculty to develop and deliver pedagogically sound content for distance learning and technologically supported instruction.
Faculty Development
The Office of Academic Technology is charged with promoting faculty development, vitality, and enrichment via the provision of training, seminars and information sessions in addition to individual and group consultation. Responsibilities include designing and implementing a comprehensive program of support for all instructional faculty across a broad spectrum of professional activities. The Office of Academic Technology support faculty in following areas:
- Enhancing the effective use of academic technology in teaching
- Promoting the effective use of academic technology in teaching
- Enhancing professional, service and scholarly activities via the adoption of academic technology
- Understanding and assessing student learning
Faculty development opportunities are provided in collaboration with Lock Haven University's Teaching and Learning Center.
