Academic Advising:  The Starting Point

Academic advising is a critical component of any college student’s experience.  Students at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania are strongly encouraged to see their advisor several times each academic year.

Regular meetings with one's advisor can provide valuable information pertaining to academic programs, individual academic progress, university support services, and ultimately, the entire college experience.  Although the academic advisor assists the student with decisions throughout her/his academic career, the student is ultimately responsible for satisfying all graduation requirements.  The student is encouraged to make arrangements to meet with an advisor on a regular basis by scheduling appointments through email, voicemail, direct contact or department secretaries.

Various academic support services are available through the Department of Academic Development and Counseling and other offices at the University.  Among these support services are tutoring, testing and assessment, academic advising, learning/study skills programming, counseling, and career development assistance.
