University Tutorial Services
Tutorial Services provides group
peer tutoring for selected 100 and 200 level courses. The study group
facilitator is a qualified and trained peer tutor. Group participants are
required to meet at least once a week. There is also an additional optional
meeting time for those students who need more assistance. Tutorial Services
strives to increase the probability of academic success for each student
participant. Group peer tutoring can provide clarification of concepts,
theories, and ideas presented in class or textbooks; improvement of
study skills; and development of a confident, positive self-image as a student
who can succeed academically. Group peer tutoring is viewed as a collaborative
learning experience between the peer tutor and members of the group receiving
tutoring. Students are encouraged to seek tutorial help before they experience
or anticipate serious difficulties in their course work. If students would like to participate in group peer tutoring, they are required to attend the weekly group sessions or they forfeit tutoring privileges for that class. Students interested in tutoring in mathematics or writing should utilize the Math Center or Writing Center.
Students who are interested and committed may join a small peer tutoring group which meets weekly by filling out a "Request Form for Tutorial Services." These forms are available in the short wing of Russell Hall under the sign "Tutor Request Forms." You will also find the form when you click the link "Requesting a Tutor".
