Appendix C-II:   Sample Advertisements

COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

PHYSICS –The position will begin August 20, 2009. A PhD in physics is required for the tenure track position, while an ABD may be considered for the temporary position. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate physics courses and laboratories.  Enthusiasm and some teaching experience are required.  The successful candidate for the tenure track position is expected to continue the development of a thin film laboratory course for undergraduates and be able to contribute to nanotechnology initiatives in the sciences.  Candidates with experience using the following equipment available on campus are encouraged to apply: sculptured film deposition system, a thermal evaporator, a bench top sputter coating system, a spin coater, a profilometer, an impedance analyzer, an I-V measurement system, a fluorescence spectrometer, a scanning electron microscope(SEM), a scanning tunneling microscope(STM), a florescence microscope, and an atomic force microscope (AFM).

MUSIC - Responsibilities include teaching a variety of courses at the undergraduate and possibly graduate level (pending approval of a new graduate program) including: Introduction to Criminal Justice, World Criminal Justice Systems, Corrections, and Research Methodology.  Additional requirements include ability/desire to offer courses online and willingness to teach via Distance Education. Candidates for a tenure-track position should have a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology or related field no later than time of appointment. The J.D., only, is not appropriate for this position. Successful applicants will have evidence of expertise and established line of research in some aspect of Corrections or Comparative Systems.

EDUCATION AND HUMAN SERVICES

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION – Responsibilities include the direction and coordination of the Student Learning Resource Center (SLRC) currently in place at the Clearfield Campus including all aspects of offering campus-based and online tutoring services, and the employment, formal training and supervision of peer tutors in the various majors and educational disciplines represented on the Clearfield Campus. Other duties will include assessment, implementation, and evaluation of student academic support issues, and procurement of tutoring resources to support student success.    

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION –Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses such as but not limited to Sport Facility Management, Governance of Sport, Public Relations, Sport Leadership and Management, and Intramural Supervision in a NASSM approved Sport Administration program, advising students, supervising internships, and serving on appropriate department and university committees.

 

 

 

Appendix C-III:   Media Outlets

All advertisement will be placed by the Office of Human Resources. In addition to discipline specific journals, the following media outlets have been utilized for faculty searches.  Department chairpersons are encouraged to suggest additional outlets and list serves appropriate for their positions.

Appendix C-IV:   Enlarging the Pool of Applicants – Posting the Vacancy

To enlarge the pool of candidates, additional effort must be made to advertise in publications that will reach a diverse population and attract underrepresented groups.  Advertising in appropriate publications and contacting relevant organizations will not only help to enlarge the pool of applicants but will also convey the commitment of the department and Lock Haven University to recruit women and minorities.

  • Minority Vita Banks – There is not cost to the University – these should be utilized. 
  • Historically Black Colleges – A mailing should be made to each college, if applicable.  The Office of Social Equity can provide mailing labels.
  • Bibliographies, Publications – Contact the Office of Social Equity for other resources such as the Minority and Women Doctoral Directory, Women and Minority Recruitment:  A Resource Guide, Professional Women and Minorities,
  • Professional Conferences – Committee members or other faculty who will be attending professional conferences or who will be delivering papers at other universities are encouraged to combine their efforts with recruitment efforts.
  • Newsletter/Journal Advertisements – Minority journals and publications should be considered as a resource for advertising the position.  See appendix C-IV for a suggested list.
