The
colloquium or class session should be arranged well in advance
of the on-campus visit. Preferably,
a regularly scheduled class should be used for the
demonstration class session.
The instructor in charge should give the candidate a
list of topics he/she would like to be covered.
The candidate should choose the topic he/she will teach
and inform the regular instructor.
The candidate should also request any special equipment
or materials needed for the demonstration.
Observers of the demonstration or class session should
make a formal but simple evaluation of it and the report
should be sent to the search committee chairperson in time to
use it for the overall evaluation.
An individual member of the search committee should be
responsible for getting the evaluations to the chairperson.

Note:
This assessment is from persons who are not members of
the search committee but who may have to interact on several
levels with other members of the community.
Therefore, the comments are an important part of the
observations for an additional prospective colleague to meet
the candidate. (Nevertheless,
opinions of students and non-professionals may be valuable to
LHUP.) Search
committees do not have to have formal evaluations from the
hosts at informal meetings.
However, some comments on the reactions to candidates
should be obtained.
