Application Process

Online application - NEW applicants to the Master of Science and Master of Education programs must complete the online application.

Master of Health Science (MHS): Physician Assistants applicants apply through theCentralized Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA)Candidates for the MHS: Physician Assistant programdo not apply directly to Lock Haven University. For more information, please visit the PA Program website.

Second Degree Graduate Candidate Form - Students who have previously completed a Masters degree at LHU and want to earn a second degree do not need to reapply.  You must complete the Second Degree Graduate Candidate Form.

Reactivation Form - Students who have completed a graduate application for the MED or MS programs within the past three years; and did not take classes OR did not finish their graduate degree OR want to change to a new graduate program must submit a Reactivation Form.

Walk-In Registration - Students can register for the concentrations and/or credential courses as a non-degree seeking student via the online Walk-In Registration form.

Students who have completed a graduate application for the MED or MS programs more than three years ago, but did not take any graduate classes must complete the entire Graduate Application process.

Graduate Assistant Positions - When a Graduate Assistant is placed in a position, we commit to keeping them in that role until they graduate, provided they are continuously enrolled (don’t take a semester off) and are making satisfactory academic progress (GPA above 3.0).

Master of Science: Clinical Mental Health Counseling (100% Online Delivery)

Application deadline for Fall 2014 - May 1, 2014

  • Online application
  • Official college transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Statement of professional goals
  • An undergraduate degree in psychology (or a related discipline such as education, criminal justice, sociology, etc.) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    • Applicants with a 2.85 - 2.99 undergraduate GPA with relevant life experience may be considered for an interview and if admitted to the graduate program, would be required to achieve a 3.0 GPA or better in their first 9 credit hours to remain in good academic standing.
  • Completed coursework in research/statistics at the undergraduate level with a minimum grade of B in each course prior to matriculation into the program.
  • Work and/or life experience relevant to the study of clinical mental health counseling.
  • Strong letters of reference from individuals knowledgeable about the applicant’s academic preparation and/or relevant experience.
  • A strong personal interview with a CMHC faculty member (either in in person on campus or through computer software that allows real-time, face to face meetings).

Master of Education: Alternative Education  (100% Online Delivery)

Application deadline for Fall 2014 - August 15, 2014

  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Copy of teaching certificate (if applicable)
  • Writing Sample: Review a pertinent scholarly journal article or report published in a recent professional journal. Include the problem or issue, the author's viewpoint and supporting ideas. Also include your professional opinion in the final paragraphs of the essay. Your essay should not exceed 300 words. (You must submit a copy of the full text of the article along with your essay.)

  • Instructional Technology Concentration

PA Director Credential
While coursework for the Director Credential is completed at Lock Haven University, the Credential is awarded by the PA Keys. The student is responsible for applying for the Director Credential directly to the PA Key. Students can register for the concentrations and/or credential courses as a non-degree seeking student in a matter of minutes, via the online Walk-In Registration form.

 

Master of Education: Educational Leadership with Principal Certification(100% Online Delivery)

Application deadline for Fall 2014 - August 15, 2014

  • Online application
  • Official college transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Copy of teaching certificate
  • Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience
  • A statement regarding the candidate’s desire to earn Principal Certification
  • Writing Sample: Review a pertinent scholarly journal article or report published in a recent professional journal. Include the problem or issue, the author's viewpoint and supporting ideas. Also include your professional opinion in the final paragraphs of the essay. Your essay should not exceed 300 words. (You must submit a copy of the full text of the article along with your essay.)

 

 

Master of Education: Teaching and Learning(100% Online Delivery)

Master of Health Science: Health Promotion/Education and Healthcare Management

Requirements for Candidacy

To earn candidacy into the MHS degree students must successfully complete 12 credits, maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0 and successfully complete program requirements (artifacts) within each concentration. Candidate progress will be reviewed by the program coordinator each semester.

  • Successfully complete 12 credits within the MHS Program
  • Grade point average of 3.0/4.0
  • Successful completion of program requirements/ artifacts within selected concentration
  • Successful completion of a degree plan

Master of Health Science: Physician Assistant

Application deadline - October 1, 2014

  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Satisfactory completion of all prerequisite courses listed below
    • 2 Courses in General Chemistry
    • 2 Courses of General Biology or Zoology
    • Human Anatomy
    • Human Physiology
    • Human Genetics
    • Microbiology
    • Statistics
  • Satisfactory completion of the Graduate Record Exam
  • While not required, the following courses are recommended as they better prepare students for the rigors of the program:
    • Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Developmental Psychology, Physics
    • Additional coursework in the behavioral sciences: Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology
  • Anatomy and Physiology courses must be completed within 5 years of matriculation.  All required courses must be completed within 10 years of matriculation. Science courses with labs are preferred.
    *A combined two semester anatomy/physiology is acceptable.
