Multicultural (MC) Overlay
The purpose of the Multicultural Overlay is to enable students to function successfully in a culturally diverse world.
The university's general education curriculum prepares students to function successfully in a culturally diverse world by requiring completion of selected courses with a multicultural overlay. The university gathers data for assessing students' knowledge and skills from selected MC courses each semester. (In addition, the university also reviews data from majors that assess relevant knowledge and skills.)
- Multicultural Overlay scoring rubric
- Multicultural Overlay scoring template (paper & pencil)
- Multicultural Overlay reporting template (Excel workbook) and directions
- Multicultural FAQ
The MC rubric was prepared by a subcommittee of the Outcomes Assessment Committee (OAC) during 2009-10. For questions concerning the rubric or its use, please contact Elizabeth Gruber by email or at extension 2858.
Departments that offer courses with the multicultural overlay should report assessment data in annual program assessment reports.
Confidentiality: The university gathers assessment data for the purpose of improving its educational programs. Individually identifiable data will be available only to the faculty committee responsible for reviewing data in the particular area. Only aggregated data will be made public for purposes of evaluating programs and documenting educational effectiveness.
