President's Budget Message
Dear Colleagues:
I know
you are aware that Governor Corbett’s proposed budget includes a reduction of over 50% in funding for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. While we were all expecting some decrease in funding, we were clearly not prepared for the 50% cut proposed by the governor.
In light of the proposed reduction in funding, I have been meeting with the vice presidents and deans, taking a look at everything we can do to keep our commitment to access and providing the best education we can for our students. Be assured that we will pursue all reasonable avenues to seek a restoration of funding to a level that will not compromise students’ ability to get an education. We are not alone in these efforts. PASSHE and our 13 sister institutions have a common commitment to the education of our students and, we share a deep concern over the potential effects of the proposed cuts.
I recognize that this is a time of great uncertainty for all of us. We will have no firm and final budget figures until the state budget is approved by the legislature. In the meantime, we must do all we can to get funding restored while at the same time exploring possible courses of action.
I remain committed to keeping communication open about what this will mean for Lock Haven University. I want you to be as informed as possible about how we are proceeding and the options available to us.
Sincerely,
Barbara Dixon, Interim President
