Negative Factors Leading to Rejection
 of the Applicant

Poor communication skills. Asks no questions or poor questions about the job
Could not articulate clear goals or future career direction. Overemphasis on money - interest only in best dollar offer
Personality of individual mismatched with organizational culture or environment. Lack of tact, courtesy, social understanding; ill-mannered
No match between skills or academic background and position. Condemnation of past employers
Level of technical competency insufficient for job. Marked dislike for school work
Lacks general enthusiasm and energy and appears unmotivated personally and professionally.  Lack of vitality; limp handshake
Weak interpersonal skills Fails to look interviewer in the eye
Failure to demonstrate leadership or management potential Indecisive 
Inadequate analytical or problem solving skills or deficient in capacity to handle concepts Loafs during summer vacations - lakeside pleasures
No active participation in or contribution to extracurricular activities Unhappy personal life
No pattern or history of top performance or success Friction with parents
Unrealistic expectations Sloppy application form
Questionable work ethic Merely shopping around or wants job for only a short time
Interests of candidates are too narrow - professional and personal Little sense of humor
No relevant work experience par-time or summers Parents make decisions for him/her
Did not "sell self" in interview Emphasis on family connections
Not a team player Cynical
Unwilling to relocate Low moral standards
Did not prepare for interview: reading literature of company brochures, or industry research Lazy
Immature and/or lacking in self-confidence Intolerant; strong prejudices
Personality: arrogant, overly aggressive, over-confident Poor handling of personal finances
Misrepresentation on resume: education, GPA, experience, skills No interest in community activities

Appearance - wanting in professional or appropriate presence: dress, grooming or habits Lack of appreciation of the value of experience
Unwilling to start at the bottom - expects too much too soon Radical ideas
Late to interview without good reason Never heard of company
Unfortunately, not all interviews result in a job offer. A rejection letter may only mean that your qualifications were not those required or preferred for that particular position.  You should be mentally prepared to accept the fact that you may receive many rejection letters, particularly in an overcrowded job market.  Remember, for each rejection letter you receive, you are actually one step closer to getting an offer.
