ChemistryCHEM120 PRINCIPLES OF
CHEMISTRY I (f or s1; 3/3) Recommended for all science majors, pre-professional students and others interested in medical and health related fields. The course recognizes diverse backgrounds and accommodates this by use of study guides, audio-visual materials, and programmed materials. Critical thinking, critical observation, and problem solving are emphasized. The laboratory work is introductory with respect to manual dexterity and treatment of data. Prerequisite: eligibility for MATH113. This course fulfills the general education natural science requirement.
CHEM121 PRINCIPLES OF
CHEMISTRY II (sp or s2; 3/3) This course is a continuation of CHEM120. There is strong emphasis on solution chemistry and solution equilibria, both practically and theoretically. Thermodynamics is introduced and its relationship to equilibria studied. Lab work is highly individualized and independent, and a student is encouraged to accomplish as much lab work as possible in semi-micro qualitative analysis. Prerequisite: CHEM120. This course fulfills the general education natural science requirement.
