Transfer Credit Eligibility - Clearfield Campus

Students who are transferring to LHU can expect that many of their general education courses will transfer. Introductory courses in Art, Music, Theatre, Speech, Composition, American Government/Economics, World History, Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Wellness and Sociology/Anthropology may transfer in as required general education courses. A mathematics course may transfer if it is comparable to Lock Haven University’s Mathematics 101 or higher. Science courses that include a lab may transfer in as a lab science requirement. Courses that have been taken within a discipline area may need to be evaluated by the chairperson of that department.  Many of the links below will assist you in determining credit transfer eligibility.

Please contact our admissions office to talk with us directly about any questions that you may have.

Transfer Credit Policy

Credit Transferability:

Transfer Course Database

To see how your course work will transfer to LHU, use this database. The database automatically knows that the courses are coming into LHU, you only need to select where the courses are coming from.

Transferable credits from PA Community Colleges

Unofficial Credit Evaluations

An unofficial credit evaluation can be completed before a student applies to see how many credits may transfer to Lock Haven University.

Academic Passport

The Academic Passport was implemented to ensure that when a student transfers from a PA community college or PASSHE University that they do not have to retake successfully completed college level courses. The program is specific only to PASSHE universities.

Students qualify for academic passport who have:

  1. Earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from a community college in PA or Lackawanna College. They must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all coursework and at least 30 credits of liberal arts courses.

  2. Earned at least 12 college level credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0 at another PASSHE university.

If a student qualifies for the Academic Passport, all grades of D or higher will transfer to LHU. Although these courses transfer, some academic departments may request that a student repeat the course if a higher grade is required.

Participating Academic Passport Institutions

PA community colleges -  Bucks County, Butler County, Allegheny County, Beaver County, Philadelphia, Delaware County, Harrisburg Area, Lehigh Carbon, Luzerne County, Montgomery County, Northampton County, PA Highlands, Reading Area, and Westmoreland County

PASSHE universities – Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester.

Lock Haven University provides students with the opportunity to appeal how courses may have transferred (or were not evaluated for transfer entirely) to LHU.  If you feel your transfer credits have not been properly evaluated, please use the Transfer Credit Appeal Form.  The department chairperson will review the course description/syllabus and provide a recommendation to the Registrar's Office for a change in the course equivalency or indicate the original equivalency is accurate.  You may continue to check your transfer course equivalencies on your SIS account to view changes.   If you do not see changes within a reasonable time, you may contact the Registrar's Office to determine if a change is pending.
