Social Work

The Social Work Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. You will learn the knowledge, skills, and values needed to become an effective generalist social worker. The courses that you take will prepare you to work with people in any setting, especially since you will be completing volunteer hours in conjunction with several of your major courses and a 430 hour field placement before you graduate. Throughout your education you will learn about human behavior, social work practice, social welfare policies, working with diverse people, ethics, and research in the classroom setting as well through real world experiences.

We are proud to be accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Our graduates can either enter the workforce as entry-level social work practitioners or attend graduate school for a Masters in Social Work. Our graduates work in a variety of settings including child welfare services, health care facilities and agencies, schools, mental health agencies, drug and alcohol agencies, and any other place where there are people in need. One of the benefits of being accredited by CSWE is that our graduates can apply for advanced standing in an accredited MSW program where they will receive credit for the courses that they completed as part of their undergraduate education. Students need to achieve a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.25 GPA in social work in order to qualify for this benefit.

Social Work Department faculty have advanced degrees in Social Work and many years of college teaching experience. We have all worked in social work agencies and are licensed social work professionals. Faculty have published scholarly works and continue to help others through their community service.
