RimbySusan

In today’s rapidly changing interdependent world, citizens and workers will need a wide array of problem-solving skills, the ability to understand diverse cultures, and proficiency in interpersonal communication.  Degree programs offered in the College of Liberal Arts and Education give students the opportunities to develop those skills. Both our liberal arts and education programs are relevant for twenty-first century college students who are preparing for their challenging and rewarding lifetime careers as well as that first post-college job.

Programs housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Education align with Lock Haven University’s mission.  These programs provide strong foundations in the liberal arts and social sciences, give students real-world experiences, and enable students to be responsible, successful citizens in our global and technologically advanced society.  “Our faculty are experts in their disciplines, devoted to teaching, and focused on student success,” says Dr. Susan Rimby, Dean.

The College of Liberal Arts and Education offers both programs in the arts, social sciences, and humanities; and professional education for pre-service and in-service teachers.  Versatile degrees in liberal arts disciplines prepare students for careers that require broad-based skill sets that include research, analytical, and communications proficiency.  Career choices for majors in liberal arts disciplines include communications, public service, law, business, and work in non-profit organizations.  Degrees in education programs prepare students for instructional and educational leadership positions in a wide variety of settings.  Both the liberal arts and the teacher education programs, prepare students for study in graduate and professional schools that offer advanced degrees.

The College of Liberal Arts and Education includes the following disciplines: Anthropology, Art, Communications, Dance, English, Secondary Education in English, Foreign Languages, Geography, Healthy and Physical Education, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, International Studies, Masters in Alternative Education, Masters in Educational Leadership, Masters in Teaching and Learning, Middle Level Education, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, PreK-4 Education, Sociology, Special Education/Disability and Community Services, Secondary Education in Social Studies, Theater, and Women’s and Gender Studies.
