Students interested in a Secondary Education degree can major in Biology, and the Biology Department also offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Natural Science with a concentration in Biology.

The Biology Department at Lock Haven University emphasizes a "hands-on" approach to science. Many biology students undertake independent research, working under the supervision of a faculty member. In recent years several students have taken the opportunity to present their research at professional conferences. In addition, the department offers opportunities for internships; past internships include the the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the Reading Police Department, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the Weis Center for Research at Geisinger Medical Center, county Conservation Districts, and environmental consulting companies. Students have also served internships at some prestigious research laboratories, at private companies, and at research universities such as Miami University of Ohio, Penn State/Hershey Medical School, and the Department of Plant Pathology at Penn State University.
