The grand total number of Communication Media credit hours is 39

The total core consists of 21 hours: 15 hours in universal core and 6 hours in one selected emphasis core

Communication Media electives total 18 hours

Required Universal Communication Media core:
5 courses required for all emphases

 You are required to declare only one emphasis, but it is possible to satisfy the requirement for all three,
and many students in fact do declare more than one emphasis.

 2 Required Courses for Print Journalism Emphasis

 2 Required Courses for Broadcast Media Emphasis

 2 Required Courses for Public Relations and Advertising Emphasis

Electives in Communication Media: 18 hours required (usually 6 courses) 
You may satisfy as many as 6 hours of Communication Media electives by taking an internship.

You may take any course with a JOUR or MCOM prefix to satisfy the Communication Media electives requirement. 
In addition, you may count SPCH 305 Public Relations as a Communication Media elective.

Foreign Language: usually 4 courses (12 semester hours )

You are not required to take four language courses; instead, you are required only to pass the fourth level.  If you took some language in high school, for example, then you might want to start at the second or third level.  Be advised, though, that you still need 120 hours to graduate.  So, if you start at, say, the third level, then you may take six more hours of general electives.

Liberal Arts Seminars: 3 required  (9 semester hours) 
All B.A. students are required to take three liberal arts seminars, one in each of the following three areas.

General Education: 60 hours required of all students:
a 42 hour core and 18 hours of electives

Although some majors allow only 10 hours of electives, the Communication Media major allows 18, which means you are given enough general education electives to also declare a minor if you wish.  You may take any course that counts for graduation credit as a General Education electives.
