Comments from Lou Alberse, class of 1982

I have worked in the newspaper industry, specifically The News Tribune in New Jersey. I also have held a few marketing positions for private companies, writing and designing promotional materials. That led me to the ad agency arena. After working for two agencies, I decided to start my own.

Five years ago, SolidOak Communications was born (www.solidoakcomm.com). I am the President and Creative Director.

SolidOak is a full-service ad agency based in Kinderhook, NY. Although my Web site is a continual work in progress, you can get a look at creative efforts (print, radio, tv, outdoor, Web and more) produced in recent times. SolidOak's clients include financial institutions, ILuvNY tourism, theatre groups, artists and museums, etc.

Comments from Randy Rohrbaugh, class of 2002

I've accepted a job at WHTM ABC 27 in Harrisburg. I've also changed my focus in the journalism field. When I was hired at WMDT in Salisbury, MD, I was hired as a producer. A little over a year ago, I was given the chance to learn photojournalism. I LOVED IT!!! and stuck with it. I was hired at WHTM as a photojournalist and am eager to continue my career.

Employment examples of  Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania
Communication Media graduates

Below is listed a small sample of where our Communication Media graduates are employed.  You can scroll down this page to see them.

Note: Not all of the jobs listed below are in the area of the mass media. We feel that all of our graduates' jobs, whether or not in the media, represent an affirmation of our program. We are pleased to see employers in the automobile, airline, and the computer industries, for example, hire our graduates. The hiring of our students in a wide variety of industries says to us that the journalism skills our students learn are respected by employers in many areas. Among those skills that we would suspect are important to all employers are the writing, thinking, interviewing, researching, computer, and speaking skills that all of our journalism and mass communication students acquire.

One graduate was offered a full ride at the University of Illinois to enter the master's program in advertising (a program rate number one by U.S. News), but accepted instead an offer to take a masters in advertising at the University of Texas because Texas offers a creative track.  Other students earned masters' degrees in advertising and public relations at Syracuse University and the University of Tennessee; in journalism at Connecticut.  One earned a doctorate at Ohio State University.

A December 1999 grad said in a recent e-mail that she started as a assistant producer at ABC 27 news in Harrisburg and in a few months was promoted to associate producer of the morning news.

One graduate wrote a book that has been extensively reviewed by the media in the New York City area.  It's called Watering Hole: The Colorful History of Booze, Sex and Death at a New Jersey Tavern. You can purchase it from Amazon.com for $17.50
