The Criminal Justice Program at Lock Haven University offers a dynamic program of study, with a strong foundation in sociological issues. Students enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program at Lock Haven University also have the opportunity to specially tailor their degree to meet their interests and prepare them for the development of their chosen career. Each student is assigned an academic advisor who works closely with them to develop an academic program that meets their individual needs. Many students use this opportunity to take course work that leads to a minor area of study, such as sociology, psychology, political science, or foreign language.
The opportunity to engage in an internship experience is another key feature of the criminal justice degree at Lock Haven. Internships are not required; but many students use them as an opportunity to explore career options, while gaining valuable experience. Some have even been hired by their internship site agencies. The B.S. in Criminal Justice became an official offering at Lock Haven in 2000. As of
spring semester, 2008, there were 373 declared criminal justice
majors at Lock Haven University. The majority of those are
enrolled in pursuit of the Bachelor of Science in Criminal
Justice. About 45 students are enrolled in pursuit of the Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Since 2001, a total of
438 students have graduated with the criminal justice degree

Program graduates have secured employment in a variety of areas including probation, parole, state police, local police, and private companies contracting with various criminal justice agencies to provide services to court involved individuals. Program graduates have also been accepted into graduate school and law school.
