2009 Press Release
- In the spring of 2009, Lock Haven University's Clearfield Campus Criminal Justice Club, Alpha Kappa Omega, was formally awarded a chapter into the American Criminal Justice Association's Lambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE). Focusing on community, campus, and departmental service, Alpha Kappa Omega has been involved in activities including the Clearfield Rotary Club's Election Day Pancake Dinner, fish stocking with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and New Student Orientation Day.
In addition to helping others through service, the group is actively scheduling field trips, fund raising, and selecting an individual for the Outstanding Criminal Justice Student Award. Under the direction of Dr. Michael J. McSkimming, criminal justice professor, future plans include visiting Houtzdale Prison, assisting in the Clearfield and Curwensville Rotary Club Golf Outing, raising money for Haiti Relief, and participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Currently, there are 22 active members of the Clearfield Campus Criminal Justice Club.
Dr. Marianne Hazel, Clearfield Campus Interim Dean, commented, “The students and Dr. McSkimming are certainly making a difference on our campus and in our surrounding areas. We are certainly honored to be recognized as part of a national chapter, and are hoping that our club continues to grow.” For more information regarding the criminal justice program, please visit www.lhup.edu/clearfield .
