Board of Govenor's Scholars Program
(B.O.G.) CRITERIA OUTLINE
- Selection Criteria For B.O.G.
- Pennsylvania resident scholarship ONLY.
- The successful completion of an academic high school program.
- Ranking in the top two fifths of the graduating class.
- Satisfactory SAT or ACT scores of 800 and up or 17 and up.
- B.O.G. approval by the Selection Committee.
Submit annually the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form
of the College Scholarship Service. (The reason this is necessary, is that
the scholarship is a state granted tuition waiver, meaning all state
financial aid forms must be completed before it can be received.)
- Criteria for Continuation of the Scholarship
- A student must maintain full-time status for every semester.
- B.O.G. may be extended for a maximum of eight semesters within a four
and one-half year period. The B.O.G. can be used to cover cost for summer
school, (at the discretion of the Vice President of Academic Affairs).
- Students must maintain the following cumulative averages and have
completed the following criteria for any given semester:
- At the end of two semesters, a student must have earned a 2.5 Q.P.A.
and completed 24 credits.
- At the end of four semesters, a student must have earned a 2.7 Q.P.A.
and completed 51 credits.
- At the end of six semesters, a student must have earned a 2.9 Q.P.A.
and completed 81 credits.
- A student must participate in either LHUP's Honors Program or its
NAVIGATOR Program, First Year Experience (FYE), and Student Support Services
Mentoring Program (SSSMP).
- If a B.O.G. is discontinued for lack of academic progress or other
appropriate reasons, the student may reapply for the B.O.G. when the
academic criteria are again met or the problem has been rectified.
- 20 hours of community service/year.
- Goals for the B.O.G. Program
- To provide an academic environment so that each scholar fulfills their potential.
- To share their zeal for learning, which characterizes the scholars with fellow students across the Commonwealth.
- To prepare students for top management positions in Business, Industry, Government and Education.
- To instill within each student a desire to serve.
- To develop a philosophy of life and a world view which enables the scholar not to just cope, but triumph with dignity and integrity over the difficulties of the modern world and lift human spirit to new heights.
- To insure cultural expansion through acquaintance with faculty and visiting scholars beyond the usual classroom experience.
- To develop the skills of organization and administration through multiple assignments.
- To encourage leadership through responsible execution of activities on campus and through visits to high schools throughout the Commonwealth as a student representative of Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.
- To prepare the scholar for the rigors of graduate school by special academic advisement, regular counseling and on-site visits to professional schools.
- To assist in student retention.
- To provide students with the opportunity to interface with the Lock Haven community and surrounding area.

- Application Procedures
- Submit a Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania Admissions application.
- Submit a B.O.G. application to the Admissions Office no later than May 15.
- Announcement of the recipients by June 1.
- In consultation with the Scholarship Committee, the Vice President of Academic Affairs may authorize exceptions to the selection criteria. The Scholarship Committee and the Vice President may also authorize exceptions for scholarship renewal after a review of individual circumstances and performance records.
