Clearances and TB Test Policy For Observation and Student Teaching at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania

It is the policy of Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania (LHUP) that all teacher candidates must possess a current Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check (Act 34), Child Abuse History clearance (Act 151), and a valid TB test to be eligible for student teaching.

Effective April 1, 2007 all student teachers, education major students participating in the classrooms and having contact with students in private or public schools, or employed in private or public schools must have a current FBI Federal Criminal History Record (Act 114) done. LHU Students must provide an original record report  to the Office of Student Teaching (RLC 613) to be verified and recorded prior to entering any public or private school. This clearance is valid for the entire time you are enrolled at LHU; unless you lose the original or if you have a break in your enrollment. The processed FBI Clearance Must state “no record”. This clearance requires fingerprinting done at specific sites in Pennsylvania. Click HERE for instructions.

Lock Haven University will not make student teaching placements for students whose background checks reflect a felony offense. To that end, the following guidelines are provided for clarification regarding this issue:

  1. All persons who intend to student teach must secure the aforementioned documents, as per their residency, to establish eligibility to student teach.
  2. The clearances and TB test must be current and may not expire during the duration of the 15 week placements.
  3. An applicant for student teaching must present the aforementioned documents to Mrs. Patricia Cozzi (613 Robinson Hall) prior to beginning student teaching.
  4. THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT CLEARANCES IS AS FOLLOWS:

To Student Teach in the:

      • Fall Semester - Deadline: May 1st
      • Spring Semester - Deadline: December 1st
  1. Failure to submit the clearances and TB test to Mrs. Cozzi's Office by the deadline dates will cause the cancellation of both student teaching placements. There will be no exceptions. Once the placements are cancelled they will not be reinstated. A student who does not meet the deadline for the aforementioned documents will have to reapply to student teach at the beginning of the next semester.
  2. Because there is a delay when applying for clearances and/or the FBI check, be sure to apply the first week of classes, a semester before you will student teach.
  3. The task of securing clearances and the TB test is the responsibility of the prospective student teacher.
