Praxis I ® Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST®)
These tests measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. In addition to licensure, these tests are often used to qualify candidates for entry into a teacher education program.

The Praxis I tests are delivered in both computer and paper formats. They are administered through an international network of test centers, which includes some universities, high schools, Prometric Testing Centers and other locations throughout the world.

PPST Tests: Praxis I Exams

All students majoring in teacher education at Lock Haven University must successfully pass the Pre-Professional Skills (PPST) Tests in Reading , Writing, and Mathematics prior to being admitted into the teacher education program. Furthermore, students may not enroll in 200 level education courses that programs have identified as "gateway courses" until such time that all PPST scores are passed (This is Childrens Literature - EDUC 202 - for Elementary Education Majors.) Passing scores MUST be recorded in the Teacher Education Office.

PDE has used the Praxis I (PPST I), Basic Skills testing composite score since September 15, 2005, as it potentially helps a candidate who may excel in one of the three areas but is weak in another area. In addition to the composite score cutoff, currently set at 521, candidates must also achieve a minimum score on each of the three tests. Effective January 1, 2009, the Bureau has established new minimum scores:

Your Scores
Your official score report will be available to you online via your Praxis account on the score report release date, approximately four weeks after the test date.  Online scores will be downloadable and available for forty five (45) calendar days from the score reporting date. You should take a copy of your passing scores to the Teacher Education Office.

Praxis Registration Forms are available through the Teacher Education Office, 609 Robinson Learning Center. You are also encouraged to register for the Paper/Pencil tests online. When you register for the Praxis exams, pay special attention to the test numbers and the format for the test.

Lock Haven University is a test center for the Praxis tests. Our center number is 01740. Be sure to code LHU# 2654 as both your attending institution and recipient of your test scores.
