Sophomore Year

Apply for Candidacy
-
Candidacy is formal admission as a candidate for an Elementary Education
Teacher Certificate. Candidacy is required of all students taking 300 level
classes or higher (in your major). A student may apply for candidacy at the
completion of 45 credits (including 6 credits in English and 6 credits in Math);
successful completion of PRAXIS I; and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Application deadlines are October 1 (for Spring registration) and February
14 (for Fall registration)

Junior Year
|

Present Developing Portfolio (All observation hours must be
completed prior to presenting your developing portfolio in the Junior Year of
the program.) Hours include:

20 Diversity Hours - 10 Hours in each Diversity Area identified in the
Diversity Profile Plan. A Diversity Essay will be written using the Directions,
Guidelines, and Rubric in your Developing Portfolio.

60 Field Experience Hours - The 60 hours must meet all of the following
specifications:

16 hours in regular education from Intro to Elementary Ed - EDUC 105

10 hours in regular education from the Elementary School - EDUC 204
-
4 hours in regular education from Children's Literature - EDUC 202
-
10 hours from Intro to Exceptionalities - SPEC 105
-
10 hours in K-2
-
10 hours in 3-4
-
10 hours in 5-6

10 hours in Special Ed

20 hours in a learning environment
