Club Advisor: Dr. Tracey Cummings

 

Dr. Tracey A. Cummings is currently an Assistant Professor of English at Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, PA, where she teaches general education courses and a variety of upper-level courses related to American literature prior to 1900. She earned her Ph.D. in English with a specialization in 19th-century American literature from Lehigh University in 2005. Her dissertation, entitled “'For Such As He, There Is No Death': Louisa May Alcott's Rewritings of Henry David Thoreau,” explores how and why Alcott rewrote and re-conceptualized the figure and works of Thoreau in her popular fiction. One of her major research interests involves the way in which Thoreau as a major American figure and his writings are re-worked and re-imagined by other American writers. She enjoys reading Thoreau (obviously) as well as many other 19th-century American authors. She proudly serves as faculty advisor to the English Club and to Sigma Tau Delta.
