    This session is titled, "The Changing Landscape of Identity: Understanding and Supporting Students of All Gender Identities and Sexual Orientations." Conducted by Robyn Ochs, a professional speaker, workshop leader, and editor of an anthology on bisexuality. The teens and twenties are times of exploration, discovery and growth. For non-heterosexual students, this is a time when presumptive lables and sexuality are called into question. Robyn will discuss her work with teens and young adults and share some of her observations, best practices and lessons she has learned. Sponsored by the President’s Commission on LGBT Affairs and the Office of Social Equity.

    Professional speaker and activist Robyn Ochs will conduct an interactive workshop that addresses heterosexism and homophobia and their effects.
    It will offer insights on how to an be effective
    ally to gay, lesbian, bi and transgender people. There will be a reception at 6:30 pm. Sponsored by the President’s Commission on LGBT Affairs and the Office of Social Equity. Free and open to the public.

    This online tutorial service is provided free to students enrolled at LHU. It supplements the services provided by the group peer tutors. 2:30- 4 pm: Students can meet the Smarthinking representative and receive giveaways. 4 pm: The campus community at large is invited to learn about Smarthinking online tutoring services and have an opportunity to ask questions of the representative.

    The movie is based on "The China Study" written by Colin Campbell and is about how heart disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases above are becoming more prevalent in the U.S.  It explains how we may be unaware of the effects of processed foods and focuses on a simple solution.

    This year, National Eating Disorders Awareness Week has been designated from February 26 to March 3.  HOPE Center volunteer Cierra Guest will give a presentation on the pervasiveness and seriousness of eating disorders.

  • 7:30 pm, WriteNow: Community Conversations with Contemporary Authors Reading by poet and playwright Jeanne Murray Walker with participation by the University Players and Dangerously Improv
    Multipurpose Room, Parsons Union Building
    Professor of English at the University of Delaware, Jeanne Murray Walker
    is the author of seven volumes of poetry and numerous plays and essays. Her work has been honored with prizes and awards including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, seven Pennsylvania State Arts Council Fellowships, the Prairie-Schooner Reader’s Choice and Strousse Awards, and the Pew Fellowship in the Arts. One of her plays, The Chosen Daughter, is recommended for high school and college theatre departments, and it is this script—with its emphasis on finding independence, weighing choices, and examining family relationships. This event can serve as a discussion starter on career choices, family relationships, and issues of identity, independence, and gender expectations. The author also will speak about writing in several genres and the processes of drafting, revising, and then seeing produced her play The Chosen Daughter.

    LHU Professor Dan Shaw will lead a discussion with a focus on a certral issue in the God debate, whether a highly improbable set of positive circumstances provides evidence of God's divine plan, or whether implausible coincidences happen all the time for both good and ill.     Dr. Janet Irons, professor and chair of the Department of History, Political Science, Economics, Geography and Foreign Languages, has been intensively involved in the last five years with a project jointly sponsored by Lycoming College, the Lycoming County Historical Society and the James V. Brown Library in Williamsport to bring together materials that tell the story of women in Lycoming County History.  The project is well advanced, with hundreds of documents online in a searchable database.  In the process, those involved learned a history of women in central Pennsylvania that has heretofore been unknown. Sponsored by the AAUW (American Association of University Women) . Free and open to the public.

It features interviews from young women alongside messages from powerful women, such as Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, and Katie Couric. Following the film, there will be a discussion of the issues presented. Sponsored by the HOPE Center.
