Financial Aid for Physician Assistant Students
Master of Health Science/Physician Assistant in Rural Primary Care
The Physician Assistant in Rural Primary Care program is a 24-month graduate curriculum awarding the Master of Health Science (MHS) degree as well as a Physician Assistant certificate in Rural Primary Care. A new class of physician assistant students begins each May. The students attend classes for 24 consecutive months, including summer sessions, earning their Master degrees in May at the end of the second year. (e.g. a student who begins in May 2013 will graduate in May 2015).

Federal Direct Stafford Loan

Maximum eligibility is $20,500 unsubsidized per loan term.
Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan

Maximum eligibility is equal to cost of attendance minus other estimated financial assistance.

It is recommended that students first apply for their maximum eligibility under the Federal Stafford Loan program.

Students with adverse credit histories may apply along with a credit worthy co-signer.
Alternative Loans
Alternative loans are private, non-federal student loans. We recommend that students first apply for all other forms of financial aid, including grants, scholarships, and federal students loans (e.g. Stafford and PLUS), before applying for an Private Alternative Loan. The terms and conditions of federal student loans may be more favorable than the provisions of private, non-federal student loans. Student Private Alternative Loan borrowers are typically required to apply along with a creditworthy co-signer. FAFSA
Every student interested in applying for a Federal Stafford Loan must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Physician assistant students will complete three (3) FAFSAs during the length of the program. For example a student starting the Master of Health Science: Physician Assistant program summer 2013 should complete a 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 FAFSA now and complete a 2014-2015 FAFSA after January 1st, 2014.

Participation - Participation in any educational loan program is strictly voluntary. Lock Haven University offers all eligible students a Federal Direct Stafford Loan. If the student does not wish to borrow a Stafford Loan or wishes to reduce the loan amount(s), s/he should follow the instructions provided in the award notification for rejecting or reducing awards.

Federal Direct Loans - Lock Haven University (LHU) processes Federal Stafford and PLUS Loans through the Direct Loan program. Under the Direct Loan program, these federal loans funds come directly from the federal government. Private Alternative Loans - There are various private alternative loans via which a student may borrow additional funds. Alternative loan lenders typically require a student borrower to apply along with a credit worthy co-borrower. For more information about private loans, please click here.
