1. Freeman ASIA Scholarship: Freeman Asia Scholarships provide students with financial support to study abroad in East and Southeast Asia.  Students with little or no language background in the selected country can apply.  The amount of the scholarship is contingent upon the length of the study abroad program. 

Applicable Majors: Any field of study
Eligibility: Must have at least one term of enrollment remaining at the home institution in the U.S. upon return from Asia.
Award: Summer Program: $3,000
Semester Program: $5, 000
Academic Year Program: $7,000

2.  Fulbright Fellowship: 
Fulbright grants allow students to pursue their academic interests in more than 100 countries around the world.  Student Fulbrighters either study at a university or pursue independent research in the host country that they have selected.  There are even special programs for foreign language teachers. 

Applicable Majors: Any field of study
Eligibility: Graduating Seniors
Award: Fully paid award for one academic year of study or research in a foreign country

3.   Goldwater Scholarships: Goldwater Scholarships are designed to support undergraduates who are interested in pursuing careers in the sciences.  Sophomores can obtain up to two years of support while Juniors can obtain a maximum of one year of support. 

Applicable Majors: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics
Eligibility: Sophomores or Juniors. Applicants must have a GPA of “B” or better and be in the top ¼ of students at the university.
Award: Up to $7,500 for one year of university related expenses
Application deadline: February 1, 2007 (campus deadline is earlier)

4.  James Madison Memorial Fellowship
: The James Madison Memorial Foundation awards Junior Fellowships to students who are about to complete, or have recently completed, their undergraduate course of study and plan to begin graduate work on a full-time basis. Junior Fellows have two years to complete their degree.  Fellowship recipients must enter a master’s program that prepares them to become full-time secondary education social studies teachers. 

Applicable Majors:  History, but also other social studies majors
Eligibility: Possess a bachelor’s degree or plan to receive a bachelor’s degree no later than August 31 of the year in which you are applying; be a teacher, or plan to become a teacher, of American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level (grades 7-12).
Award: Up to $24,000 for two years of graduate study

5.   Marshall Scholarship: Marshall Scholarships support students graduating from US universities to complete graduate degree programs at any university in the United Kingdom.  Support is comprehensive and generally lasts for two academic years, though an additional year can be obtained.   Students selected for this scholarship represent “potential leaders, opinion-formers and decision-makers” of the United States. 

Application Majors: Any field of study
Eligibility: Graduating Seniors. After the first year of university studies, students must have maintained a GPA of above 3.7.
Award: All expenses related to study in the UK for two years.

6.  Mellon Fellowships: The Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in Humanistic Studies are designed to support students who show exceptional promise as future teachers and scholars in humanistic disciplines.

Applicable Major: English, History, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Women’s studies, etc.  (Winners are expected to enroll in a two-year, full-time master's degree program in either public policy, international affairs, or public administration, or in an academic field such as business, economics, political science, sociology, or foreign languages.)
Eligibility: Graduating seniors
Award: Tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees are paid for the first year and second year of graduate study, with reimbursement for books and travel (one round trip per academic year).

7.  National Security Education Program (NSEP): NSEP scholarships provide US undergraduates with generous financial support to both study abroad and to learn languages of less commonly studied countries (essentially this means everywhere in the world except Western Europe).  The goal of the program is to advance the competencies of US citizens with respect to cultures and countries that are less often studied. 

Applicable Major: any field of study
Eligibility: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
Award: Maximum of $8,000 for summer, $10,000 for semester, and $20,000 for a full academic year.

8.  Truman Scholarships: The Truman Scholarship is a $30,000 merit-based grant awarded to undergraduate students, to attend graduate or professional school in preparation for careers in government, the non-profit sector, or elsewhere in public service.

Applicable majors: Any field of study

Award: up to $30,000 for graduate studies

9. Udall Scholarships: Morris K. Udall Scholarships are offered in any of three categories: (1) To students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to the environment; (2) To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to tribal public policy; (3) To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to Native health care.

Applicable Majors: Disciplines related to the Environment, Health Care or Tribal Public Policy.
Eligibility: Sophomores and Juniors in the current academic year.  College GPA of at least “B” or equivalent.
Award: Up to $5,000 to cover university related expenses for one year.

10. The Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship
: The Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship is a program specifically designed for students who have been traditionally underrepresented in international education. Underrepresented students include: students with high financial need, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds, students going to nontraditional study abroad destinations, etc.

Award: Up to $5,000
