Dr. Glenn L. Hosterman, Professor of Music in the Department of
Performing Arts, is completing his seventeenth year as a faculty member
at Lock Haven University of PA, Lock Haven, PA (one of the 14 PA State
System of Higher Education [PASSHE] institutions). At LHU, he conducts
the Jazz/Rock Ensemble and Combo, the Brass Ensemble, and the
Synthesizer Ensemble; he also teaches Applied Brass lessons, an American
Music course, a Jazz Studies course, and several general education music
offerings. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Hosterman spent nine years on
the music department faculty at Marywood College in Scranton, PA. From
1973 to 1979, Glenn was Junior High Band Director at Bald Eagle-Nittany
High School in Mill Hall, PA. He received a B.S. in Education from
Indiana University of PA in 1970, and M.Ed. and D.Ed. degrees from the
Pennsylvania State University in 1979 and 1992, respectively. He is an
active guest conductor, having conducted over thirty festival bands in
his college career; in addition, he conducts yearly Act 48 jazz band
reading workshops at PMEA District 4 Band Festivals where the band
directors play new literature and perform a dinner concert for their
students. Dr. Hosterman also serves as a statewide clinician in the
areas of computer music education and cooperative learning. He is the
founder and President of the Clinton County Friends of Jazz, an
organization which has sponsored concerts at Lock Haven University
performed by: the Woody Herman Orchestra, the Artie Shaw Orchestra, the
Count Basie Orchestra, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey
Orchestra, the One O'Clock Lab Band from University of North Texas, the
Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra featuring Lew Tabackin, Diva (No Man's
Band), guitar artist Gene Bertoncini, and piano artist Dick Hyman.
Glenn maintains an active performance schedule as a jazz and classical
trombonist - with the River City Brass Quintet and the Last Resort
Dixieland Combo from Lock Haven, the Deacons of Dixieland (where he also
serves as Musical Director) from Central PA, the Billtown Brass
(British-style brass band) from Williamsport, and the Back Bay Express
(little big band) from Linden. He has served with band programs in the
active and reserve components of the Army, having retired from the
military in 1992 with over 22 years of service with: the 276th Army Band
[PA Army National Guard] in Philadelphia, the 28th Division
Band [PA Army National Guard] in Altoona, and, from 1970 to 1973, active
duty Army Bands in Maryland, Virginia, and the Republic of Vietnam.
Glenn additionally sings in the choir at United Lutheran Church in Lock
Haven. He lives in rural Lock Haven with his wife Kathleen Malenke (who
is a registered music therapist), and their four children: Sarah; Susie;
Seth; and Zachery.
