Some Shots of Our Audience

Angular Momentum
Jon shows how he gets around as he demonstrates angular momentum by siting on a rotating chair and holding a spinning wheel. He discusses the forces acting on him due to the rotating wheel.

Pressure
Kelly give one of her professors a lift. He stands on a plastic bag that is inflated by a shop vac. She is easily able to lift him off the floor.

Center-of-Mass
Kelly precariously balances boards over the edge of the table. Once again she is testing a professor's understanding of physics principles.

Pressure
Ian uses the mighty force resulting from atmospheric pressure to crush a giant 50 gallon barrel!

Pressure
Jim uses the mighty force resulting from atmospheric pressure to shoot a little ping pong ball across the room. (Pick on somebody you own size.) The ping pong ball is placed inside a PVC pipe, which then has its air removed. When a seal is broken, the air rushes in and, with a loud bang, the ping pong ball shoots out.

Circular Mtion
Ian makes everyone nervoous as he shows how one can swing a cup of water in a circle with out spilling a drop.

Doppler Affect
Jim also has swinging good time by rotating a whistsle in a circle above his head. We hear the sound change pitch as the whistle move towards and away from us.

Center-of-Mass
Kelly explains what center of mass is by balancing a meter stick with an eraser on it, on her finger. If that's not enough, she then, with the help of John, balances a huge pumpkin on a 2x4 making for a well balanced demo show.

Inertia
Taneisha has us all worried as she balances raw eggs on toilet paper rolls on a pizza tray above four beakers. Has she gone mad? Well maybe, but she's probably just showing us how confident she is in her understanding of the principle of inertia. She uses a broom to knock out the tray knowing that the eggs will tend to stay at rest and thus fall into the beakers.

Sound and Resonance
Who gives a hoot about sound? Jim does. He produces eery sounds by heating the air within a long tube. As the air leaves, deep howling sounds are heard.

Hovercraft
How can you not like a hovercraft? Ian first shows how to make a small one out of a CD and a balloon. Then, with the help of an audience member, he shows a fancier one that is a bit larger. Not satisfied with that, he brings out a giant one and put the kid on it and then pushes him around. Fun!

Liquid Nitrogen
Taneisha shows that even though she's wearing a witche's hat and using liquid nitrogen, she is not all cold hearted. After doing a bunch of cool demos, she makes ice cream for everyone.

Bed-of-Nails
Yikes! Mike volunteers to take a rest on the bed-of-nails. Jim explains how the weight of Mike is spread over many nails so that he does not feel a lot of force from any one. But he doesn't stop at that. He then puts another blanket of nails on top! Then a cinder block on top of that. Mike hasn't fallen asleep in his bed, but he's not all that worried either. Jim breaks the cinder block with a sledge hammer. The inertia of the block and bed of nails means the force of the hammer will not be felt by Mike. Whew!

Strength of Paper
Jon has an audience member tear up a measley piece of paper. Then he amazes everyone by haning over 80 pounds of weights on anothe piece of paper. Paper isn't such a wimp after all.

Sound and Resonance
Mike orchestrates a symphony of sound created by the audience. He, and his son, first show how different length tubes make different pitch sounds. Then he hands out a bunch of colored coded tubes to the audience. Next he explains how each person must hit their tube when he tells them to. After some practice, he has them doing Mary Had A Little Lamb, complete with harmony. Next Carneige Hall.

Vacuums
Joe's demo sucks. Yes that's right. He shows us some amazing things by removing air from a bell jar. He makes marshmellows grow and balloon grow.

Vibrations
Joe shakes things up with a few demos on detecting smalling vibrations. He also is able to detect Dr. Reid's pulse by reflecting a laser off a mirror placed on Dr. Reid's neck, thus proving that he actually does have a heart.
