Electrostatics
Nicole and John rub balloons against fur and cover two audience members with the balloons.

Diffraction
John demonstrates diffraction using a gas discharge tube and diffrraction gratings handed out to the audience.

Faraday Cage
Justin demonstrates electrostatic sheilding using a screen and transistor radio.

Magnetic Induction - flash bulb
Jim surprises everyone by inducing current in a loop of wire as it passes through a strong magnet. The loop of wire is attached to a flash bulb and the light are turned down...flash!
MOVie MOVie
Helmholtz Coils Jim demonstrates two large Helmholtz coils. Current runs through wire loops made on a hula-hoop and the magnetic field produced deflects a compass needle.
Jim also runs current through two suspended wires. The forces between the two wires is clearly visible.

Internal Reflection.
Ken demonstrates internal reflection by pointing a laser beam into a stream of water and and into a plexiglass spiral.
MOVie
Justin Demonstrates magnetic induction using jumping rings. A strong electromagnet induces current in a ring which opposes the magnetic field of the electromagnet. If you look carefully you can see that one of the images shows the ring in the air.
MOVie
Light Modulation
Tim demonstrates light modulation using laser and stereo. A radio signal is controlling the intensity of the laser light, which is sent around the room and directed at a photo-cell, which in turn is amplified and sent to a speaker.
MOVie
Speakers & Laser
Brad places a mirror on a speaker and reflects a laser beam off the mirror.

Leyden Jar
John & Nicole collect charge from the Van de Graaff to the Leyden Jar and show where the charge is located.

Interferometry
John demonstrates the motion sensitivity of a Michelson Interferometer.
MOVie
Chain Reaction
With help from an audience member, Ken demonstrates a chain reaction using about 100 bouncing balls and about 50 mouse traps.
MOVie
Magnetic Damping
John demonstrates magnetic damping using an aluminum plate and strong magnet.

Rainbow
Ken produces a rainbow using a prism.

Scattering of Light
Ken demonstrates light scattering and how it produces the colors in the sky.

Van de Graaff Generator
John & Nicole do several demonstrations with the Van de Graaff.
