Financial Assistance for Graduate Students

     
  A variety of financial aid options exist for graduate students at Lock Haven University including Graduate Assistantships, Scholarships, Federal Loans, Alternative Loans, Repayment Plans, and more. Comprehensive Information on financial assistance available to graduate students is available through the LHU Student Financial Services.

Eligibility for Federal Financial Aid:

To be eligible for Federal Financial Aid (Stafford and/or Graduate PLUS Loans) students in the graduate programs at Lock Haven University must be enrolled as at least a Half-time student. Half-time status is defined differently depending on the program you are entering as follows:

MED: Alternative Education and Teaching and Learning
3 Credits (1 Class) Fall and Spring Semester

MED: Educational Leadership
6 Credits (2 classes) Fall and Spring Semester

Master of Health Science Physician Assistants:
The Program is offered only as a full time program thus all enrolled students would meet financial aid eligibility requirements.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid:

To apply for federal aid programs (i.e. Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Perkins Loan, and Federal Work Study), students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA may be completed on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov . The Lock Haven University Federal School Code is 003323.

Students interested in federal financial aid should complete and submit the FAFSA as early as possible. Financial aid awards will not be determined until after students are officially accepted into a graduate program.

Graduate Assistantships: (Click Here for Detailed Information)

A limited number of Graduate Assistantships are available.
Remuneration will include full tuition waiver and stipend of $5,400 per year.
Summer remuneration will include full tuition waiver and stipend of $1,800. Graduate assistants will work in an assigned area for a designated supervisor no more than twenty hours per week.

Assignments will (as much as possible) be in an area related to the student's major field of study.

Qualifications: The student must be:

Unconditionally admitted to graduate study (minimum GPA of 3.0 in the undergraduate degree or having completed 9 graduate credits and received a 3.0 or better)


Enrolled full-time (i.e., 9 semester hours of graduate work per semester)


Remain in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or higher)

Deferment of Undergraduate Student Loans:

Graduate Students may also be eligible to defer outstanding undergraduate student loans while actively enrolled at the graduate level. For details, students must contact their undergraduate loan provider.

Financial Aid for International Students:

To be eligible for federal assistance, a graduate student must be either a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen. Inquiries regarding international student aid should be directed to the LHU Institute for International Studies .
