LHU Faculty Complete Study of Alternative Education Practices and Policies

Lock Haven University Faculty Members, Drs Nathaniel and Jessica Hosley and Dr. Myint Thein, completed a study of the perceptions of administrators and teachers on the progress made by alternative schools to meet the federal requirements of No Child Left Behind.  It also included a financial analysis of the Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth funding process in Pennsylvania.  The study was released by the Center for Rural Pennsylvania in September of 2009.

LHU Faculty, Staff Celebrate NCATE Reaccreditation

One of the highlights of the 2009 Lock Haven University opening meeting was recognition of the achievement of reaccreditation by the National Council of the Advancement of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The Lock Haven University Physician Assistant Program has received national recognition by U.S. News & World Report. LHU is ranked 34th in a field of 127 schools offering the physician assistant graduate degree in the independent media outlet’s 2007 annual college rankings.

LHU listed among top 15% of nation's colleges for being Military Friendly

Lock Haven University has been selected for a place on the G.I. Jobs 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools. The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students. According to G.I. Jobs, “Schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community colleges and trade schools. The common bond is their shared priority of recruiting students with military experience.”

LHU Department of Early Childhood Development Receives Grants to Add Online Graduate Courses (Complete Press Release)
The LHU Department of Early Childhood Education has received a grant for $15,200 to implement their Gate Opener Project. The project targets teachers in Pre-K Counts, Keystone STARS, and Head Start programs. Because these teachers work full-time, accessing higher education programs can be a challenge. The project will “open gates” for these teachers to pursue additional education. The LHU Gate Opener Project will create on-line course offerings which can be used in either of two LHU masters programs.
