The Athletic Training Education Program at Lock Haven
University is designed to educate and train students to become Certified
Athletic Trainers. Graduates of the program are highly educated allied
health professionals. The program educates its students through the combination
of classroom course work and practical experience. Students at Lock
Haven have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the athletic training
faculty in both of these settings.
While at LHU, athletic training students will take
courses designed to provide them with the knowledge and skill to become
successful athletic trainers. Athletic Training Students major in
Health Science / Athletic Training, but students are able to double
major if they would like to pursue teaching certification or other
majors.
Program Accreditation Currently, the Athletic Training Education Program at Lock
Haven is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program was started in the
mid-seventies and received initial accreditation in 1977. Since that
time the program has grown from one faculty member and eight students
to six faculty and over forty students.
The Athletic Training Education Program was recently awarded a seven year re-accreditation cycle, which is the maximum term provided by CAATE. The program will next be reviewed for continuing accreditation during the 2012-2013 academic year.
