DISCIPLINARY POLICIES and PROCEDURES
All students accepted into the ATEP must maintain a minimum 2.5 overall GPA and earn a "C" or better in all program courses. Failure to meet either of these requirements will result in immediate dismissal from the ATEP. Students are able to appeal the program's decision (see Appeals policy, below). All other program disciplinary problems follow the procedures outlined below.
The following procedures have been designed to ensure the smooth operation of the ATEP. Offenses of the rules and regulations shall require a student to appear before the Program Director and/or CSMS for disciplinary action or dismissal from the program. The following steps indicate formal procedures. Disciplinary actions shall be entered into the Athletic Training Student’s permanent file.
STEP 1: An offense will result in a student/Program Director formal meeting. The student will be allowed to discuss the nature of the offense and offer explanation. An official letter that the meeting occurred along with a summary of the student’s comments will be sent within 7 days to the student’s campus address and the student will have 7 days to respond and make factual changes. The final copy of the letter will be placed in the student’s permanent file.
STEP 2: A second offense will result in a student/athletic training faculty formal meeting. Minutes of the meeting as well as a written response (including disciplinary action to be undertaken) by the faculty will be filed in the students permanent file. One copy of the written response will be sent within 10 days to the student’s campus address, an additional copy will be placed in the student’s permanent file.
The student will be placed on probation for one semester. Any additional offense will result in movement to Step 3 in the disciplinary process.
STEP 3: A third offense will result in a student/athletic training faculty formal meeting. Minutes of the meeting as well as a written response by the faculty will be filed in the student’s permanent file. The disciplinary action taken for a third offense will be immediate dismissal from the Lock Haven University Athletic Training Education Program. The student is notified of their dismissal in writing.
Minor Offenses:
Minor offenses include, but are not limited
to, dress code violations, tardiness, and failure to attend
assigned athletic training room hours, failure to attend mandatory athletic training student
meetings, failure to complete required paperwork or submit mandatory
documentation. Committing minor offenses may result in disciplinary
action if recommended by the supervising certified athletic
trainer.
Disciplinary Offenses:
Disciplinary offenses include, but are
not limited to, failure to complete athletic training tasks
as assigned by supervising certified athletic trainer, failure
to attend assigned practices or competitions, insubordination,
failure to perform duties in a professional manner or failure
to act in a manner consistent with the standards of LHU, the
ATEP, and the NATA.
Any athletic training student has the right to appeal the disciplinary decisions made by the ATEP faculty. All appeals must be made in writing and submitted to the ATEP director’s office within seven days of receiving the disciplinary letter. In the written appeal, students may request a meeting with the ATEP faculty and the Health Science chairperson to discuss their appeal. Review of appeals will be made by the ATEP faculty and Health Science chairperson. The final decision will be sent to the student within seven days of receipt of the appeal letter or the appeal meeting.
